Meet Craig Unroe, a dynamic leader with over two decades of experience in management and business ownership. Originally hailing from Detroit and a resident of Cape Coral since 2016, Craig's journey in telecommunications and entrepreneurship has honed his skills in effective leadership and strategic decision-making.

With a passion for community service ignited by witnessing the concerns of fellow citizens being disregarded, Craig made the bold decision to step into the political arena as a candidate for City Council in District 2. Fueled by a commitment to transparency, accountability, and genuine representation, he aims to revolutionize the way Cape Coral is governed.

Craig's frustration with escalating taxes and a lack of tangible improvements in infrastructure echoes the sentiments of many residents. He questions where the increased tax revenues are truly being allocated, advocating for a transparent and accountable use of public funds. His unwavering dedication to his community drives him to demand answers and effect tangible change.

A staunch advocate for citizen empowerment, Craig pledges to be a steadfast voice for the people, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed. From preserving cherished parks like Jaycee Park to advocating for overdue infrastructure improvements, Craig's vision encompasses the holistic well-being of Cape Coral.

In a city grappling with growth and development challenges, Craig stands firm against the encroachment of apartment complexes into residential neighborhoods. He envisions a future where Cape Coral attracts high-paying jobs, enabling its residents to thrive without commuting elsewhere.

Central to Craig's platform is a fair tax structure that shields long-time residents from bearing the burden of new infrastructure costs, shifting the responsibility onto incoming residents. His vision for Cape Coral is one of inclusivity, progress, and shared prosperity.

As he embarks on this journey, Craig invites you to join his campaign, believing fervently in the power of collective action to bring about real change. With Craig Unroe as your representative, rest assured, your voice will be heard, and your concerns will no longer be ignored.

Craig's Priorities

Integrity:

In Cape Coral, integrity seems to be a rare commodity. There's a prevailing sense that what we're being told isn't always the truth. Take, for instance, the Patty Cummings case, where an official was elected for a district she didn't even live in—a fact that was widely known. It's clear that thorough background checks should be conducted on all candidates to ensure honesty and transparency. Additionally, instances like the Cape Coral Yacht Club being included in the Go Parks Bond, then mysteriously removed after approval, raise serious questions. There was also a charter change allowing a city official to dock a boat on an empty lot, which doesn't sit right with many residents. Most concerning, however, is the Stipend issue. City council passed a stipend that essentially doubled city officials' salaries without giving voters a say in the matter. This needs to be rectified immediately by rescinding the stipend and restoring accountability to our local government.

Transparency:

Transparency has been sorely lacking in our local government for the past three years. Access to information is limited, and council meetings are often shrouded in secrecy. I'm committed to changing this by advocating for open dialogue and increased transparency. Residents deserve to know what's happening in their city and have a voice in the decision-making process.

Accountability:

Fiscal responsibility seems to have taken a backseat in Cape Coral. Despite promises of improvement, only four out of eleven parks have been built as of 2018, highlighting the irresponsible and reckless spending of the $60 million Go Parks Bond. This money belongs to the people, and it's crucial that the city manager and other officials are held accountable for their handling of public funds.

Infrastructure:

Re-zoning decisions must prioritize the well-being of our community. We cannot continue to convert residential areas into spaces for apartment complexes and multi-family dwellings without considering the strain it puts on our infrastructure. Our roads are already struggling to handle current traffic levels, and without proper infrastructure improvements, the situation will only worsen. It's essential that we focus on strengthening our infrastructure before making any further zoning changes to ensure the safety and efficiency of our city's transportation network.
